Speed Metal
Motion. Craftsmanship. Details that matter to few, but can drown those for whom they do.
My portfolio page sticks to a theme; The Sea. By way of Landscape, Human form, Abstract, and Energy.
But here in the blog section, I’ll share samples of other interests, or even things I am just not very good at photographing. In this edition, I’ll share some images from my experience at the 2023 Rennsport Festival at Laguna Seca.
Rennsport is the Porsche factory run festival for enthusiasts, owners, collectors, racers and more. It only happens every 5 years or so, and they move the event to various race track facilities that can handle the load. 4 days of programming. Live music. Art. Entertainment. And a race track filled with various classes of cars all day. A cacophony of engines roaring, tires squealing. It is a feast for the senses.
Celebrities walk about with the rest. No one at Rennsport is hiding behind security. Racing legends, movie stars, pioneering engineers, brand visionaries. Even Porsche’s very first car, serial number 0001, sits out in the open. No ropes. No barriers. If there is a theme about this event, it is that everything is accessible.
I am no Porsche owner. There are lots of things I appreciate and do not own. But a buddy of mine owns a couple of Porsche’s from 1984 and 1967 respectively. He bought me a ticket to the event and together we road-tripped down to Big Sur to spend a week driving the coast, and walking the Rennsport festival.
